Christians claimed Jesus is sinless in the Bible and in the Quran.
According to Islamic scholars, Jesus is considered sinless. While Muslims believe prophets can make mistakes, they generally do not succumb to major sins. In the case of Jesus, they claimed that the Quran does not mention any sins, and Islamic tradition emphasizes his sinlessness and unique status.
However, the Quran acknowledges that prophets like Adam, Abraham, Moses, and Muhammad made mistakes or sought forgiveness for their sins. Then why do Muslim scholars made Jesus in contrast with the others a special status as a sinless Prophet.
S10:44 Verily Allah will not deal unjustly with man in aught: It is man that wrongs his own soul.
In the Qur’an it is stated that Jesus is like Adam –
S3:59 The similitude of Jesus before Allah is as that of Adam; He created him from dust, then said to him: “Be”. And he was.
If Adam sinned then the chances of the similitude of Jesus also sinned is apparent.
Adam sinned when he angered Allah disobeying His command by eating the forbidden fruit –
S7:22-24 So by deceit he (Satan) brought about their fall: when they tasted of the tree, their shame became manifest to them, and they began to sew together the leaves of the garden over their bodies. And their Lord called unto them: “Did I not forbid you that tree, and tell you that Satan was an avowed enemy unto you?” They said: “Our Lord! We have wronged our own souls: If thou forgive us not and bestow not upon us Thy Mercy, we shall certainly be lost.” (Allah) said: “Get ye down. With enmity between yourselves. On earth will be your dwelling-place and your means of livelihood for a time.”
Likewise, Jesus also sinned as he angered Allah by making an unusual request –
S5:114-115 Said Jesus the son of Mary: “O Allah our Lord! Send us from heaven a table set (with viands), that there may be for us, for the first and the last of us, a solemn festival and a sign from thee; and provide for our sustenance, for thou art the best Sustainer (of our needs).” Allah said: “I will send it down unto you: But if any of you after that resist faith, I will punish him with a penalty such as I have not inflicted on any one among all the peoples.”
Thus, Jesus like Adam also sinned as both their misconduct incurred Allah’s anger.
Even the Christian Bible provided proof that Jesus sinned when he was rude to his mother by angrily shouting at his mother by calling her “woman” the same he called a prostitute –
John 2:2-4 And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage. And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, they have no wine. Jesus saith unto her, WOMAN, what have I to do with thee? Mine hour is not yet come.
John 8:10-11 When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, WOMAN, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee? She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.
It is a common social value shouting at one own mother is deplorable and it is a sin as stated in the Qur’an –
S17:23 Thy Lord hath decreed that ye worship none but Him and that ye be kind to parents. Whether one or both of them attain old age in thy life, say not to them a word of contempt, nor repel them, but address them in terms of honor.
Thus there is no contradiction between Jesus is like Adam. It is therefore proven that Jesus is like Adam and both sinned and there is no exception that both need the mercy of Allah seeking His forgiveness.
The other reason being claimed that Jesus is sinless is that he is described as pure in the Qur’an the angel gave news to Mary she will bear a pure son –
S19:19 He said, “I am only the messenger of your Lord to give you news of a pure boy.”
However this is not a concrete case that Jesus is sinless as all babies are borne pure and are sinless until they become adults and are aware of the actions they did is sinful.
Jesus is not divine in the Qur’an and not recognised as the son of God but as one of the prophets of Allah –
S10:68-70 They have said, “Allah has taken a son.” Exalted is He; He is the one Free of need. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth. You have no authority for this claim. Do you say about Allah that which you do not know? Say, “Indeed, those who invent falsehood about Allah will not succeed.” For them is brief enjoyment in this world; then to Us is their return; then We will make them taste the severe punishment because they used to disbelieve.
S2:136 Say, “We have believed in Allah and what has been revealed to us and what has been revealed to Abraham and Ishmael and Isaac and Jacob and the Descendants and what was given to Moses and Jesus and what was given to the prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and we are Muslims in submission to Him.”
