Is Jesus the son of Allah in the Qur’an? The Qur’an emphatically says no. Yet some Christians claimed that it is also entirely consistent with the Qur’an to consider Allah is the Father of Jesus for the following reasons:
1) Allah caused Mary to become pregnant with Jesus
2) Allah determined some of the physical characteristics of Jesus
3) All of the genetic characteristics of Jesus were determined by just two parties: Allah and Mary.
A Muslim might argue “Being a father implies having sex”, and therefore Allah cannot be the father. This is however not necessarily so. Modern science has brought us “test tube babies”, which are conceived without any sex. There is nothing to support the idea that if Allah wants a baby, he must resort to normal human means to have one.
In the verse below it is stated –
S37:152 “Surely they lie when they declare: “Allah has begotten children”
But the question ask is where is the “lie” in the Christians reasoning in the above argument?
S2:116-117 They say: “Allah hath begotten a son”: Glory be to Him. Nay, to Him belongs all that is in the heavens and on earth: everything renders worship to Him.
To Him is due the primal origin of the heavens and the earth: When He decreeth a matter, He saith to it: “Be,” and it is.
Christian’s belief that here Allah made Mary pregnant. What more would Allah have to do if he wanted a legitimate son?
S19:35 It is not befitting to the majesty of Allah that He should beget a son. Glory be to Him! when He determines a matter, He only says to it, “Be”, and it is.
So is Allah unable to beget a son by saying “Be”?
S43:81 Say: “If the Lord of Mercy had a son, I would be the first to worship him”.
So to a Christian, all these arguments will not limit Allah to have a son!
However in Muslim’s thought, it is typical for Christians to try to make Allah in the Qur’an to have a son as the Bible clearly stated that their god has his only begotten Son in Jesus and he sacrifice this lovely son for the love of the worlds –
John 3.16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
The one thing that the Christians failed to understand is Allah does not need a son! They can use the verse Surah 43:81 Say: “If (Allah) Most Gracious had a son, I would be the first to worship.” And they stopped there, but the message continues saying
S43:82 says “Glory to the Lord of the heavens and the earth, the Lord of the Throne (of Authority)! He is free from the things they attribute to him!”
Allah is free from the things they attribute to him!” and He does not need a son!
Therefore in the Quran when Allah said He did not beget any son. This is the principle of unity that God do not need a partner whether with a son or with anybody as partner. As it is stated of His attributes in the whole surah –
S112: Say: He is Allah, the One and Only; Allah, the Eternal, Absolute; He beget not, nor is He begotten; And there is none like unto Him.
Even to be a believer in the Quran, one has first to declare Allah beget no son as to acknowledge the All Mighty is One and Only One as in –
S17:111 Say: “Praise be to Allah, who begets no son, and has no partner in His dominion: Nor (needs) He any to protect Him from humiliation: yea, magnify Him for His greatness and glory!”
S18:4-5 Further, that He may warn those who say, “Allah hath begotten a son”: No knowledge have they of such a thing, nor had their fathers. It is a grievous thing that issues from their mouths as a saying what they say is nothing but falsehood.
S10:68 They say: “Allah hath begotten a son!” Glory be to Him! He is self-sufficient! His are all things in the heavens and on earth! No warrants have you for this! Say you about Allah what you know not?
S23:90-91 “We have sent them the Truth: but they indeed practice falsehood! No son did Allah beget, nor is there any god along with Him: (if there were many gods), behold, each god would have taken away what he had created, and some would have lorded it over others! Glory to Allah! He is free from the things they attribute to Him!
As such, there is nothing in the Quran that clarify or insinuating that Allah would want a son, this is blasphemy as Jesus is not the son of Allah he is just a messenger of Allah as stated –
S4:171 O People of the Book! Commit no excesses in your religion: or say of Allah aught but the truth. Christ Jesus the son of Mary was no more than a messenger of Allah, and His Word, which He bestowed on Mary, and a spirit proceeding from Him: so believe in Allah and His messengers. Say not “Trinity”: desist: it will be better for you: for Allah is one Allah: Glory be to Him: far exalted is He above having a son. To Him belong all things in the heavens and on earth. And enough is Allah as a Disposer of affairs.
