The shahada to become Muslim by the Sectarian Sunni, Shia, Salafi, Wahabi and others does not comes from Allah or from the example of the Prophet in the Qur’an.
Those who bear witness on Muhammad as messenger of Allah in the Qur’an were the hypocrites who incurred Allah’s anger –
S63:1-2 When the Hypocrites come to thee, they say, “We bear witness that thou art indeed the Messenger of Allah.” Yea, Allah knoweth that thou art indeed His Messenger, and Allah beareth witness that the Hypocrites are indeed liars. They have made their oaths a screen (for their misdeeds): thus they obstruct men from the Path of Allah: truly evil are their deeds.
Prophet Muhammad A.S. never bear witness himself as a messenger to Allah or bear witness on others as messengers.
To be a Muslim one has to declare himself submission only to Allah.
S3:102 – O you who have believed, fear Allah as He should be feared and do not die except as Muslims in submission to Him.
And a Muslim is one who followed and obeyed Prophet Muhammad A.S who followed the way of Prophet Abraham A.S who make declaration of submission to Allah to become a Muslim.
The recitation of Prophet Abraham when he became a Muslim –
S2:131 When his Lord said to him, Be a Muslim, he (Abraham) said: I submit myself to the Lord of the worlds.(Aslamtu lirabbi aalamin).
S2:132 And Abraham instructed his sons to do the same and so did Jacob, [saying], “O my sons, indeed Allah has chosen for you this religion, so do not die except while you are Muslims.”
S3:68 Without doubt, among men, the nearest of kin to Abraham, are those who follow him, as are also this Prophet and those who believe: And Allah is the Protector of those who have faith.
The Prophet Muhammad followed exactly the same declaration as that of Prophet Abraham when he became a Muslim –
S3:20 So if they argue with you (O Muhammad) say, “I have submitted myself to Allah in Islam (aslamtu wajhiya lillah), AND SO HAVE THOSE WHO FOLLOW ME.” And say to those who were given the Scripture and to the unlearned, “Have you submitted yourselves?” And if they submit in Islam, they are rightly guided; but if they turn away then upon you is only the duty of notification. And Allah is Seeing of His servants.
To follow and to obey Prophet Muhammad is to say and declare the same recitation as he followed Prophet Abraham.
S4:125 And who is better in religion than one who submits himself to Allah while being a doer of good and follows the religion of Abraham, inclining toward truth? And Allah took Abraham as an intimate friend.
S16:123 So We have taught thee the inspired Message, “Follow the ways of Abraham the True in Faith, and he joined not gods with Allah.”
THE QUEEN OF SABAA CONVERTED TO ISLAM:
S27:44 She was told, “Enter the palace.” But when she saw it, she thought it was a body of water and uncovered her legs to wade through. He said, “Indeed, it is a palace whose floor is made smooth with glass.” She (Queen) said, “My Lord, indeed I have wronged myself, and I submit (aslamtu) with Solomon to Allah, Lord of the worlds.”
A Muslim by definition will follow and obey the declaration made by Prophet Muhammad A.S and Prophet Abraham A.S.
Sectarian Sunni, Shia and others have their own declaration on the shahda. They exegerated the role of Prophet Muhammad.
But the command from Allah is to treat all messengers of Allah without distinction –
S2:136 Say, [O believers], “We have believed in Allah and what has been revealed to us and what has been revealed to Abraham and Ishmael and Isaac and Jacob and the Descendants and what was given to Moses and Jesus and what was given to the prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and we are Muslims [in submission] to Him.”
There is no command in the Quran to declare the shahada as that done by the Sunni or Shia to become Muslim.
We have declared to Allah and testified during genesis that He, Allah is our Lord –
S7:172 And [mention] when your Lord took from the children of Adam from their loins their descendants and made them testify of themselves, saying to them, “Am I not your Lord?” They said, “Yes, we have testified.” This, lest you should say on the day of Resurrection, “Indeed, we were of this unaware.”
There is also no command in the Quran to bear witness that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah as bearing witness only to him by disregarding other messengers creates distinction among the messengers.
All believers and the messenger have agreed not to make distinction among the messengers of Allah –
S2:285 The Messenger has believed in what was revealed to him from his Lord, and the believers. All of them have believed in Allah and His angels and His books and His messengers, [saying], “We make no distinction between any of His messengers.” And they say, “We hear and we obey. We seek Your forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the [final] destination.”
